Why is a SEMICONDUCTOR damaged by a strong current ?

when strong Current flows across the semiconductor gets heated, the result is there is a breakage of bonds. This is due to Thermal Runway occurs, so there is a damage of Semiconductors.

Due to the occurrence of thermal Runway, the semiconductor get heats up and result in the breakage of bonds. So semiconductor get damaged by a strong current.
