Why is atom mass of chlorine taken as 35 and not a whole number like 35 u are 36 u?

Chlorine has two isotopes.
One of mass 35 and other of 37.
Now, the one of mass 35 occurs in nature in 75% that of 37 in 25%
Now, 35*75/100 + 37*25/100
= 35*3/4 + 37*1/4
= 105/4 + 37/4
= 142/4 = 35.5
