Why is buffaloes cool themselves in water during summer?

The buffalo also likes to wallow in mud because the water in the evaporate slower and provides longer cooling period.... also the mud help create a layer on top of the buffaloes skin .. which puts off skin parasites and bitting insects.. some animals such as buffalo , wallow in mud to cool there bodies..
