Why is coal mainly used near the source of its mining whereas mineral oil is transported to great distances?

coal is mainly used near the source of its mining whereas mineral oil is transported to great distances. it is because, transportation of coal is quite expensive but setting up an industry their is much more profitable. but, oils can be transported very easily in drums and pipes to long distances and are convinient and cheap as well.
