1. Since diffusion is a very slow process and it will require very large amount of time for oxygen to reach each and every part of the body. That is why diffusion is insufficient to meet the energy requirements of multicellular organisms like humans.
2. In multicellular organisms, all the cells may not be direct contact with the surrounding environment. so diffusion is insufficient to meet oxygen requirements of multicellular organisms like us.

In single celled organism no specific organism is needed for taking in food, exchange of gases or removal of waste because the entire body of the organism is in contact with the environment.
But in case of multi cellular organisms, body size becomes bigger and body design becomes more complex . All cells are not in direct contact with the surrounding environment . Thus simple diffusion is insufficient to meet the requirements of the cell
