Hey!

Well, multicellular organisms have millions of cells in their body.

Diffusion cannot meet the oxygen requirement of an animal as it's a slow process as well, and to overcome this probably, animals do have specialised tissues for performing various activities.

Each cell require oxygen for various biological activities, and that's why the oxygen we take in is insufficient for all cells and unlike the unicellular organisms, the multicellular organisms aren't in direct contact with the environment as well.

That's the reason diffusion is insufficient to meet oxygen requirement of multicellular organisms.

HEY!!

It is because the size of the multicellular organisms is very large compare to unicellular organisms. Diffusion is a passive mode of transport of substances and can transfer gases up to a very small distance only. This will not be sufficient for multicellular organisms’ needs.
