If seeds are not dispersed, many germinating seedlings will grow very close to the parent plan. This results in competition between every one of the seedlings as well as with the parent plant. The competition is for light, water, space and nutrients.
The agents of dispersal are :
Wind (Eg: Calceolaria)
Water (Eg: Water Lilly)
Animals (Eg: Apple, Cherry and Blackberry seeds)
Explosion (Eg: Lupins and Gorse)
