Why is ground water overused? Can there be development without overuse?​

3. Excessive use if tubewells, canals etc. for irrigation.

Yes obviously development can take place without overuse as we need to use this resource (water) judiciously, otherwise it will get depleted and survival will be difficult.Overusing it may help in development for a short period of time but in the longrun it is not good.

Answer:(i) Due to large and growing population and consequent greater demands for water and unequal access to it. (ii) To facilitate higher food grain production for large population, water resources are being over exploited to expand irrigated areas and dry season agriculture
