The point was formerly known as Pygmalion Point and Parsons Pointbefore . It was renamed in honour of Indira Gandhi during mid-1980s.

The village is named Indira Point after Prime Minister Indira Gandhi it is the southernmost point of India's territory formerly known as Pygmalion Point and Parsons Point
