Hot air is lighter than cold air. So when a heater is placed on the floor of the room, hot air that comes out the heater moves upward because of its density which is lighter and it will keep the room hot evenly. If it is placed on the ceiling, hot air will move upward and so it will not be evenly distributed in the room.Coolers are always placed close to the ceiling because the density of the cold air is heavier and this enables the cold air to travel down towards the floor. It will replace the heat in the room and thus make the room cooler.

Answer:

It is more effective for heaters to be placed closer to

the floor, because after heating hot air becomes lighter, less

dense and raises upwards making the room warm.

When coolers are to be installed at a height, it cools the air

that is closer to the ceiling first and the cool air sinks down

making the room cooler. This not only helps in cooling the

room fast but also helps to save electricity.
