Why is it not possible to form Na+2 ion? Explain with respect to periodic properties.

Sodium cannot form Na+2 ion because it belongs to IA group which has 1 valence electron in M shell. On losing its 1 valence electron it attains inert gas configuration of Neon. Hope this helps:)
