why is large number of children and old age population considered as a burden​

As children and old age population are not performing any productive tasks that can help nation to grow and they are just the reason of more resources consumption of nature. Hence , large number of children and old age population considered as a burden.

Children and old age population does not contribute to the income potential and that is why they do not show any fund in GDP of a country. Hence from the point of economy and in assessing the GDP of a place these two categories are considered as burden.
