The lymph is called middle man between tissue cells and blood because it brings oxygen, food materials, hormones, etc., to the body cells and transports carbon dioxide and other metabolic wastes, from the body cells to blood and then finally discharges the same into the venous system.
It defends the body by eliminating the germs removed out of the body tissue with the help of lymphocytes.
It joins body tissues to the heart.
