France colonized North America because of great amount of furs they found there . North America is a huge area of land which was once covered with grasses and colorful wild flowers. The French called the rolling plains of grass "prairie", from the word for a meadow grazed by cattle. As you move from east to west, the rainfall in the prairies decreases.

The French traded with the Indian for furs that they look back and sold in Europe because people were willing to pay a lot of money for furs in Europe.
