Why is petroleum the lifeline of present day civilization?

Because now a days all the civilians are driving so many vehicle which can be only ran by petrol or diesel except bicycle so  and If they want to go near there house they are taking there vehicle to go inducing me too and they are not taking the public transport to go out of the citie or town.
