Because Punjab was the only way to come to India
Explanation:
In the ancient period, Punjab was known as the ''gateway of India.''
The location of Punjab is such that no invaders could enter it from the north and north-east owing to mighty Himalayas. So the only way left was the passes of north-east. These passes namely- Khyber, kurram, tochi, gomal and bolan are the low altitude passes in the western offshoots of Himalayas that connect various regions with Punjab.
- It is from these very passes that invaders, traders, merchants and scholars used to come to India in the ancient period. Majority of the invaders came from Khyber pass.
- It is a encompass able pass. . As it leads to deserts of Sindh which also contains few of the hottest places of the world like Jacobabad. The only invader to cross bolan pass was Mohd. Bin Qasim. No matter whichever pass they used the first area they entered was the area of Punjab or "the land of five rivers". So for this reason Punjab is called "the gateway to India "
