Sex ratio is the ratio of number of females to per 1000 males.

It has been unfavourable to women because :

• In many countries of the world, people have to face discrimination based on gender. Males are given more preference over females. Males enjoy better rights and privileges.
• This discrimination results in evil practices like female foeticide, females infanticide, etc which causes unfavourable sex ratio.(especially in Indian subcontinent)
• In many countries, females faces domestic violence like mental and physical tortures. This also leads to unfavourable sex ratio in many countries.
• Females are socially discriminated even on their work places due to which they are not economically independent or are paid less as compared to males.
