Sodium(Na) is a highly reactive element which can react with oxygen really fast. So, it is not safe to keep it in air or water. zhence, it is kept in kerosene.

QUESTION

WHY SODIUM IS KEPT IMMERSED IN KEROSENE OIL?

CHAPTER:: METALS AND NON METALS

CLASS :: 10TH

SODIUM ( Na) and POTASSIUM (K) also are always kept immersed in KEROSENE OIL because these both metals are highly reactive. If kept in open, they react vigorously. Which may cause an accidental fire. So they are kept immersed in KEROSENE OIL to eradicate any such circumstances.
