Sunlight is regarded as white light because it is combination of various other lights of visible spectrum which combines together to give white light This white light is the sun light.
This is seen when scattering of sunlight occurs, when the sunlight pass through suspended air particles present in atmosphere. Sunlight scatters only white light.

It is only because its short-wavelength colors (green, blue, violet) are scattered out by the Earth's atmosphere, much like small waves are dispersed by big rocks along the shore.
