Leprous means ‘skin’ or ‘hide’ which refers to the skin of a leprosy patient.
They are affected by a long-term bacterium named Mycobacterium leprae.
It mainly affects the skin, nose, eyes, nerves and the upper respiratory tracks.
It also causes nerve damage, muscular weakness, and skin sores.
These bacteria are spread through airborne droplets.
