The narrator possessed several character traits that are associated with a gentleman. He was sensitive, kind hearted and respected other people. This can be seen in the chapter 'two gentlemen in Verona'. He is not judgemental and buys the fruits that the boys were selling due to the earnest look in their eyes. He was sensitive towards their living conditions and wanted to help. He knew that they worked really hard but didn't spend a lot of money on themselves. He was curious but still kept his distance. He tried to help them anyway he could, even though they did't want help. Even after he learnt of their situation, he never invaded their privacy, knowing that they wouldn't want him to know. He was considerate and empathetic.
