In self pollination there is no alternation or variation in the progenies. This is because in self pollination, the pollen grains of a bi sexual flower gets stuck to the female part called stigma of the same flower.

After the pollination occurs and fertilization takes place, the plant gives rise to a flower which is similar in characteristics to that of the parent plant.

This occurred because the parent plant has similar DNA material in the female reproductive and the male reproductive part. Due to this the pollen grains, gained the same exchange of DNA material from the female reproductive part thereby resulting in the similar characteristics of the parent plant.

Hope it helped !
