Why is the cpu called the brain of a computer?

because cpu is the main processing unit of computer and it controls the all units of computer

Cpu stands for central processing unit.
All the information goes through that device. It reads the information, somehow it break into some sort of data it can decipher and makes a "decision" what to display as the final information.
Example :-

When you click on a saved program, it looks at the request you made, goes looking for matching information in the memory bank and on the hard drive and splashes the information on the monitor.
