Forests in general are known as ‘lungs of Earth’ because they absorb large amounts of carbon dioxide and release large amounts of oxygen due to photosynthesis.

The forest is called as 'The lungs of the Earth' because it is mainly composed of green plants. These plants perform photosynthesis in the day. Photosynthesis, as you know, uses carbon di oxide and water in the presence of sunlight and chlorophyll to produce glucose and oxygen. Oxygen is necessary for the survival of organisms and the green plants in the forests are the largest producers of oxygen. That is why the forest is called THE LUNGS OF THE EARTH.
