Why is the ganga plain lying between the ghaggar and teesta rivers and not between ganga and its tributaries?

Ganga plain is characterized by quaternary alluvia with combinations of clay, silt, sand and gravels. Lithologically, it is monotonous except the northern part where the Bhabars of the Himalayas grade into the plains and in the southern part.
