Lithosphere is important because it is the outermost crust of the Earth. It comprises the crust and upper part of upper mantle. Lithosphere thus is the source of all Geology we are studying on the earth surface.

Below it we find asthenosphere. Lithosphere is like a boat which sails over the great ocean (the asthenosphere). While lithosphere is made up of brittle to ductile matter, asthenosphere is molten.

Lithosphere is the site of all tectonic and non tectonic activities. Orogeny, epiorogeny, volcanic; name any process and all are realted to lithosphere

Lithosphere serves as a source of minerals, source of fuels and provides nutrients for plants. It also serves as a natural habitat for many organisms including humans.

Hope it helps^_^
