Medieval period in India started in 550 A.D and lasted till the 17 th century when Mughal empire began to decline . Medieval is a Greek word meaning “time in Middle”. Medieval period is a link between ancient and modern period i.e it connects ancient world to modern world . It saw the birth of Christianity , Islam and building of Islamic empires , passing of knowledge of ancient Greek ,Roman , Indian civilization to the Muslims . Hence it is a continuation of the ancient world .
