The moon is a silent planet because there is no atmosphere and subsequently no weather or wind for sound to be created. There is a vacuum on the planet and sound cannot travel to an empty space.

The air present in earth allows the movement of sound waves from one point to another. On earth, sound can move through many other elements and objects.
