Why is the plasma membrane known as a semi permeable membrane?

bcoz ... that allows certain molecules or ions to pass through it by means of active or passive transport.....

Osmosis is where solvent molecules (usually water) move from one side of a cell membrane to the other. This happens because the concentration of a solute is higher on one side.

plasma membrane is also called the semi plasma membrane because the plasma membrane allows only the certain substance to pass through it .it doesn't allow any harmful bacteria .it only allwows the nitrogen , oxygen and the useful thing which are important to our body .
