Why is the reaction between calcium oxide and silicon oxide called an acid base reaction?

Answer : Because the product is a salt.

CaO + SiO2 ===> CaSiO3

CaO is the oxide of ametal, a basic anhydride, which gives the base Ca(OH)2 in water. SiO2 is the oxide of a nonmetal, an acid anhydride, which reacts as an acid.
