The determination of copper is dependent upon the production of the intense blue color of the cupric ammonia complex when ammonia is added to the solution of a cupric salt. To produce the color system, 1 ml of 3M ammonium hydroxide was added to 10 ml of the standard copper solution, and thoroughly shaken [10]. The absorbance was measured against a corresponding blank solution.

Explanation:

: When ammonia is being added to the solution of copper sulphate for colorimetric estimation,an intense blue color of the cupric ammonia complex is formed, which is measured for absorbance for estimating the copper ions present in it.
