Some wild and traditional cultures might be preserved nowadays, but it's their own choice to be, the island has already be recovered and explored, and residents on the island ask to keep their tradition going on. However, since they've got in touch with the outside world, they should've known that eating and killing a human being isn't legal, therefore perhaps they are not eating humans anymore, but because of lack of education, some of the elders might still kill someone breaks in their homeland and eat him. The wild actions are  usually being protected by the government, and they would build up a warning signal to avoid people getting in, but if you got a local guide with you, it'd be much safer than you getting there alone because the locals know the rules and they follow the rules. Therefore, it's unwise to put your life in danger to get in some untamed and primeval areas.
