why is there a need to have a standard meridian ????
Answers
Answer:
We need a standard meridian for India because there is a time lag of about 2 hours between Gujarat and Arunachal Pradesh. To avoid confusion of time in different states , India adopted a standard meridian which is 82 degrees 30 E and it passes through Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh.

A country may have many longitudes in between the country and their is a time gap of 4 minutes between each longitude .For example the time gap between the Western most point gujrat and the eastern most point Arunachal Pradesh has a time gap of 2 hours. So, there is lot of confusion in the whole country. Therefore standard meridian should be there in every country as it is the Central longitude of the whole country so that there is equal time in all the country.
