Genetic variation is essential for natural selection because natural selection can only increase or decrease frequency of alleles that already exist in the population.

variation is very important for species because it allows the species to adapt to a changing environment.

Also,the presence of the disease and parasite.maintain variation in the species particularly those associate with blood group.

The first response of a species confronted with environmental changes,such as climate change is to shift it's range. so a species is to move poleward or to higher altitudes.when that those not work variation help individual survive in harsher condition and adapt to the changes.
