It is easy to walk on sand with flat shoes and not high heels because the surface area of heels is less than that of flat footwear.
Surface area is inversely proportional to pressure.
So, we feel less pressure while walking with flat shoes of greater surface area.
Hope it helps :)

As we know that PRESSURE = FORCE / AREA
since pressure is inversely propertional to area
as flat shoes has wide area , it's pressure is low so that we can easily walk in sand but the tip of heels is pointed means very less area so it applies more pressure due to which we can't walk on sand.
