why it is said to not speak while eating

It is because while eating , a flap of cartilage covers the wind pipe so as to avoid food enter the trachea. While we talk,vibrations of the vocal cords in larynx produces sound. So if we talk while eating,then there becomes a major risk of chocking of trachea due to swallowed food.
