why magnet attracts only iron nickle etc y not other substances/ elements

Iron, nickel, cobalt, and etc are ferromagnetic which means they have unbalanced electron rotation in their internal orbitals. This gives them a net magnetic dipole moment which means that they affected by an outer magnetic field.
