Mercury is used in thermometers because it has high coefficient of expansion. Hence, the slightest change in temperature is notable when it's used in a thermometer.

mercury is used in thermometer because it is non wetting liquid.and it is good conductor of electricity so it provide quickly and accurate reading of temperature. and it has high coefficient of expansion ,so slightly change in temperature is easily notable by use of mercury thermometer.
