A variety of stainless steels including 300 series austenitic, 400 series martensitic and some precipitation hardening types. Aluminum has corrosion problems. Copper and some of its alloys are cytotoxic and may not be used in tissue contact. Titanium alloys are quite corrosion resistant and can also be used but are much less common than stainless steels. Some more exotic alloys containing cobalt are also used. Some of these materials are qualified for surgical implants but that is another subject
