Why metallic body of an electric appliances is connected to earth wire.

Earthing is done to prevent shocks.

When during a short circuit... the fuse breaks and the current from live wire is directly into the Earth by the earth wire which is connected to the metal body of the appliance.. so if someone touches it he/she won't recieve a shock.

The metallic body of electric appliances isconnected to the earth wire so that any leakage of electric current is transferred to theground.

This prevents severe electric shock to the user. That is why earthing of the electricalappliances is necessary.
