Why milkman add baking soda to fresh milk?​

Baking soda is a base. It is added to fresh milk to prevent the curdling of milk because it neutralise the lactic acid produced in the milk by the action of bacteria.

According to the my thinking, the pH of fresh milk is nearly 6. Baking soda is sodium hydrogen carbonate or Sodium bicarbonate. On adding it to fresh milk, the medium becomes alkaline and its pH therefore increases. So, milkman add baking soda to fresh milk.
