The mitochondria is called power house of the cell because it is responsible for producing most of the cell's energy,or adenosine tri-phosphate(ATP).Cells can produce two ATP by breaking down a glucose molecule, but the mitochondria is able to produce up to 36 ATP in comparison.

Answer:

Mitochondria are called as the power house of the cell because they release energy from food after the cellular respiration in the form of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), which is also called as the energy currency of the cell.

It stores calcium, which help in maintaining the right concentration of electrically charge particle responsible for muscle contraction, clotting etc.
