When a vacuum is used pressure forces oxygen into bulb chemically reacting with filament destroying it. ... Your choices are an inert gas like nitrogen or argon that won't react with the hot filament, or a vacuum. Any oxygen would react quickly with the tungsten causing a burnout.

heya mate.. here's ur answer....
nitrogen is used to fill because it is chemically unreactive...so it doesn't react with hot tungsten filament.... if air is present in the bulbs then it will react with hot tungsten filament...
