Northern Plains are densely populated because of following reasons

Water Availability : The northern pains have a large number of rivers and streams. The water is extremely essential for livelihood. Rivers like Ganga, Yamuna, Indus, Kosi, Chambal, Sutlej etc.

Food Supply : Early humans were hunters and therefore had to keep travelling to eat but when they learnt how to cultivate food they started to settle down. To grow food you need fertile soil.

Economical Benefits : As food supply picked up so did prosperity. everyone wants to be rich. So people colonized only those areas where they could earn a livelihood because no one would make a home in a desert and no one wants to be poor.

Due to good soil and fertile land.

It have flat surfaces, slopes moving rivers, favourable climate and alluvial soil.

It have good network of roads and railway which keeps the large scale induatrial region.

Earlier civilisations like Harappa and Mahen Jo Daro are also developed here.

It is good for agriculture.
