Why phosphorous is kept in waterwhere as Sodium is kept in kerosene

Sodium WILL react violently with water. A chunk of the material will even react with water present in the surrounding atmosphere. The proper method for storing sodium is submerged in oil.

Sodium should NEVER be placed in any amount of H2O unless you intend to cause a vigorous reaction.
