Autotrophs are known as producers or transducers because they serve as energy source for the next trophic level, that is, for primary consumers. They synthesize energy via process of photosynthesis and this energy is transferred to next trophic level (primary consumers). The function of transducer is to convert one form of energy into another form of energy.
