Why sodium metal is kept in kerosene oil?????​

Sodium is a very reactive metal. It iskept in kerosene to prevent it from coming in contact with oxygen and moisture. If this happens, it will react with the moisture present in air and form sodium hydroxide. This is a strongly exothermic reaction, and lot of heat is generated.

We kept sodium metal in kerosene oil because when sodium comes in contact with humid air and water then heat is evolved from it. This is because sodium is most reactive metal after potassium.

That's why we use kerosene oil to prevent sodium from water and humid air.
