Solid CO2 is called as dry ice. It is called so because at a temperature of -110°F, CO2 changes into a solid state. It is very cold as it is of lesser temperature. When we hear that solid CO2, it directly changes into gaseous state without passing through liquid state. Hence it's called as dry ice.
