SOUND WAVES  ARE CALLED MECHANICAL WAVES BECAUSE THEY NEED A MATERIAL MEDIUM (LIKE SOLID,LIQUID OR GAS) FOR THEIR PROPAGATION.

Mantiphrangshul: Pls mark the best one.....
karanmanhotra47: bt it is too short
Mantiphrangshul: really but she didn't ask long or short one........
karanmanhotra47: i know bt the teacher do not get full marks to it
karanmanhotra47: d u not explaiin it vry much
kvnmurty: the particles of the medium oscillate and vibrate mechanically to propagate the sound waves. The sound propagates through mechanical movement of particles one after another in succession. In electromagnetic radiation, the particles of medium need not oscillate. The electric field oscillates there.
kvnmurty: the waves in a water pond, when a stone is thrown in to it, are mechanical.

a pathway along which sound is transmitted fm one pt to another is called sound wave
sound need to travel so the wave that need medium for its movement or transmission is clled mechanical wave hence we can say that sound wave is called mechanical wave

karanmanhotra47: plzz mark it as bst
karanmanhotra47: hope it wiill help u
