Why the electronic configuration of Nickel is (Ar)3d^8 4s^2 and not (Ar)3d^10 4s^0 ... even though 3d^10 is more stable than 3d^8 ??????
guys....... plz... plzz.... help me out!!!!!!!!!

hey dear,
here is your answer..
we cant shift two electrons in d shell because it dont have the etendency to shift if such things are possible than every element is stable so we can say that nickel have not the tendency to shift these two electrons there are only some exceptional casses like cobalt
hope it helps you..
thanks for giving me ooportunity to help you..

Answer:
Explanation:
In 3d8 4s2 configuration, number of exchange energies amongst each electron is more than that of 3d10 4s0 configuration. With increase in exchange energies, stability is risen, hence the configuration becomes more favourable.
Hope you understood
